Vacation Day 4

We started day 4 with Mass at Holy Family here on the island.  It's always uplifting and refreshing to participate in Mass there.  It was as usual completely packed and about 95 percent tourists.  It's fun to walk out in the parking lot and see all of the different license plates.  There is always a large Ohio contingency.

After church we headed back and got ready for the pool!  I know you're shocked.  Grammy and Papa came, and the girls splashed and swam and played until early afternoon.  Then we came back for a quick lunch and decided to head down to the beach for some exploration.  This is usually a favorite activity for the kids.  They love to find creatures and shells and whatever.  The tide was higher, so there wasn't as much on the beach, but when we got near the rocks, we found loads of shells with crabs in them.  The girls lined them up on the beach, and we watched them "race" back to the water.  Papa showed them how to hold the jelly bowls, and so the kids enjoyed picking them up and tossing them back into the ocean.  Grammy was quite nervous about the whole situation.  She was none too pleased that Papa taught the kids to handle something that potentially stings.  We also saw tons of dolphins feeding.  Some came as close as about 10 feet away.  It was really cool to watch them splash and feed.

After some fun exploration, we came in to get ready since we had a 5:30 reservation at the Lady and Sons in Savannah (Paula Deen's restaurant).  We enjoyed the traditional southern fare of fried chicken, barbecue, mashed potatoes, corn cake, collard greens, black-eyed peas, green beans, lima beans, hoecake, and cheddar garlic biscuits.  Dessert was a choice of a cream cheese cake creation, banana pudding, or peach cobbler.  I had the peach cobbler, which was really tasty, but Laura had the banana pudding.  It was by far the best.  The food was really decadent but really heavy.  We were completely stuffed to the brim.  We walked around the seaport area of Savannah after dinner to enjoy the scenery and walk about 50 of the 4000 calories we consumed.  I think that was a once in a lifetime meal - figuratively and literally.

When we got home, we did one more activity - it was at least 8:30pm......you guessed it - Matt took the kids swimming AGAIN.  It was a quick evening swim.  Matt played games with the kids, and they squealed and splashed.  A fun ending to another perfect day.
