Laura is officially on spring break. She is happy to be off school for a week. Although I think she is only happy because she gets to spend it at Grammy and Papa's house. Otherwise, she really enjoys school and doesn't seem to be tiring of it. I, on the other hand, am ready for summer break. She only has about 15-20 minutes of homework a night, but I am tired of it already. I can't imagine when she has hours of it. I can only hope that she an do it on her own mostly. I am worn out by the time we get home, and we still have to do dinner, baths and her small amount of homework. I know that I am preaching to the choir, and many of my readers are in the same boat. It's just life. But I still can be ready for summer break! Anyway, Laura is getting so much older. She is definitely not that little kindergartner anymore. She loves school and socializing and learning. She told me the other day that she is almost a first grader and she will have to spell president. Whoa.
Although Hannah has finally caught up in school this year, and she has really been excelling this winter, we are getting ready to switch schools. I'm excited for Hannah. I really think she will like her new school. As I have mentioned before, most of her good friends left last year about this time, and she has never really found good friends in her current class. She hangs with a few girls, but she isn't really close with any of them. Frankly they are kind of whiny, and it seeps through into Hannah's behavior. So I will be interested to see if a change of environment will make a difference in that department. Emma doesn't really have any good buddies either, and school at this point isn't really doing anything for her. Not that she isn't developing, as I talked about in my last post, but I think everyone is pretty much coasting out the rest of the school year. I'm not sure why it bothers me that my girls don't have good friends in their classes as school. After all, it's just daycare. But I think daycare is hard enough, at least for me. It helps if they have someone they look forward to seeing and playing with everyday. Laura always did. She was really good friends with a few girls in her class, and she even misses them from time to time now. We will see what happens at the new school. Either way, the curriculum there is good, the facility is better, and the administrative system seems much better than our current school. So we will give it a try.
What have we been up to lately? Well, Friday we did our traditional family day. Somewhere along the way, we started spending Good Friday together as a family doing something special. And we did it again this year. We took the kids to get froyo at Menchie's, and then we took them to Homestead Park to play. It was beautiful outside and nice to get everybody out to play. Yesterday Matt mowed for the first time this season, and it took 3 hours! Normally it only takes a little over an hour. #downsideofbiglawn The girls and I colored eggs too. They turned our really cute. And of course today is Easter Sunday, and we went to Lisa's. The kids had a blast, and Emma is already asleep. woohoo! Last weekend we did some yard work, or I should say Matt did some yard work :) And he put up the basketball hoop he got for Christmas. We love it! It's the best Christmas present I've ever gotten him...evil laugh. Seriously though, I think there will be many hours of quality family time spent in our driveway. Last Saturday the girls went to an Easter egg hunt at my parent's church. They had fun and got their first round of candy. Then that afternoon, we went with Grammy and Papa up to my Grandma's house. She wasn't home, but we did some yard work up there. It was a fun day outside. If you can't tell here, the common theme is that we are happy it's getting warm and can be outside. We have already spent a couple of evenings standing outside talking with the neighbors until dark. Bring on Spring!
